[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, emphasized maximum sanctions against Russia in a virtual speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting, the Davos Forum, on the 23rd (local time).

According to AP News and others, President Zelensky delivered a virtual speech at the Davos Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, calling for additional sanctions to stop Russia's aggression, including an oil embargo, blocking Russian banks, and a complete halt to trade with Russia.

He also urged the complete withdrawal of foreign companies to avoid supporting the war initiated by Russia.

President Zelensky stated that Ukraine has slowed Russia's advance and that the courage of the Ukrainian people has sparked an invisible unity in the democratic world.

He added, "History is at a turning point. It is the moment when it will be decided whether violence will rule the world or not."

The Davos Forum is a private meeting where major political and business figures from around the world gather in the Swiss resort town of Davos to discuss key global issues. It had not been held since January 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19 but reopened on the 22nd after more than two years. The Ukraine crisis is one of the main agendas at this year's forum.
