[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Independent lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, who accused her of seeking personal gain through comfort women grandmothers.

On the 23rd, Yoon's side filed a complaint with the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, stating that Kim made defamatory remarks at the 'Monthly Editors' Association Forum' held on the 16th in Jung-gu, Seoul, where Kim was invited as a candidate.

At the forum, Kim said, "The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has failed in its role to the extent that it has been called the 'Ruling Party Ministry of Gender Equality and Family,'" adding, "In particular, there is Yoon's pursuit of personal gain using comfort women grandmothers."

Yoon's side stated, "The allegations against Yoon Mi-hyang over the past two years have been proven false," and added, "As a journalist and former lawmaker, Kim has a social responsibility to be cautious about defaming others."

In response, Kim rebutted on Facebook, saying, "Yoon claims there is no fact of personal gain, but does that mean that the Korean media and investigative agencies have been systematically spreading false information and prosecuting an innocent person for two whole years?" She added, "This media play of filing a forced lawsuit against an opposing party candidate just one week before the election is malicious and emotional."
