<Gwangju City Successfully Hosts 'Archery World Cup', Now Aiming for 2025>

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City, which successfully hosted the ‘2022 Archery World Cup,’ is now gearing up for 2025.

According to Gwangju City on the 23rd, the ‘2025 Gwangju World Archery Championships’ is scheduled to be held for 8 days in September 2025.

During the event, the World Archery Federation General Assembly will also be held at the Kim Daejung Convention Center.

The World Archery Championships will involve over 1,100 athletes and officials from about 90 countries. The scale of the event is approximately three times larger than the Archery World Cup.

In June last year, the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Chonnam National University projected that 13,500 visitors would attend during the championship period based on an impact analysis of the 2025 World Archery Championships.

Additionally, the production inducement effect from hosting the event was estimated at 5.7 billion KRW for Gwangju and 9.2 billion KRW nationwide, while the value-added inducement effect was estimated at 2.8 billion KRW for Gwangju and 3.9 billion KRW nationwide.

The employment inducement effect was expected to be 98 jobs in Gwangju and 124 jobs nationwide.

Above all, the finals of the World Archery Championships will be broadcast live to 150 countries, greatly enhancing the host city’s branding and media utilization effects.

Gwangju City plans to thoroughly analyze the results of this year’s Archery World Cup to ensure the flawless operation of the 2025 World Archery Championships and maximize the event’s impact, and will establish a basic plan for the 2025 World Archery Championships in the second half of this year.

Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju said, “I thank all the stakeholders and citizens from various sectors who joined forces for the successful hosting of the 2022 Archery World Cup, which served as a precursor to the 2025 World Archery Championships.” He added, “With the wishes of 1.5 million Gwangju citizens and their passion for archery, we will prepare without any setbacks to successfully host the 2025 World Archery Championships through close cooperation with WA, the central government, and the Korea Archery Association.”
