Thorough Tax Data Management and Efforts to Expand Jajujaewon Resources Resulted
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced that it won the ‘Excellence Award’ in the 2022 local tax administration evaluation hosted by Jeollanam-do (based on 2021 performance) and secured a total of 82 million KRW in prize money and awards.
The Jeollanam-do local tax administration evaluation has been conducted since 2006 targeting 22 cities and counties within the province to promote the development of local tax administration and increase tax revenue. It evaluates overall tax administration performance across 32 items in three areas: local tax revenue expansion, non-tax revenue collection, and local tax administration operation.
Gokseong-gun has consistently achieved good results in the tax administration evaluation, having received the Excellence Award in 2020, the Encouragement Award in 2021, and again the Excellence Award this year.
Analyzing the factors behind this achievement, the county cited as the primary reason its efforts to expand independent financial resources through thorough management of taxation data despite difficult conditions such as the overall economic downturn.
Additionally, the county operates a ‘Taxpayer Protection Officer’ system to prevent unfair infringement of rights and improve taxpayer rights, runs a ‘Visiting Village Tax Accountant’ program, and publishes an ‘Easy-to-Understand Local Tax Guidebook’ to provide taxpayer convenience, all of which were judged to be contributing factors to the successful tax administration approaching taxpayers.
A county official stated, “This award is due not only to the active efforts of our staff but also to the sincere tax payments of our residents,” adding, “During this difficult time for everyone due to COVID-19, we will do our best to discover tax support policies that can help residents even a little and provide convenient and diverse tax administration services.”
