Hyundai Heavy Group Supports Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities for Disabled People for Second Consecutive Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jung] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has supported vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled for the second consecutive year to provide stable jobs for people with severe disabilities in the region and to lead ethical consumption.

On the 23rd, Hyundai Heavy Industries and the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation held a "donation ceremony" at "Meari Boram Site," a vocational rehabilitation facility for the disabled located in Buk-gu, Ulsan, and donated 10 million KRW to the social welfare corporation Meari.

At the donation ceremony, Hyundai Heavy Industries employees including Manager Jinwook Kang (Drying Department 1), who donates 1% of his monthly salary to participate in warm sharing, and Engineer Bang Songhee (Large Engine Assembly Department 1) also attended and brightened the event.

"Meari Boram Site" is a vocational rehabilitation facility that supports economic independence by developing job skills and providing technical training for people with severe disabilities who have difficulty in general employment. At "Cafe Ecopresso (Jungsan-dong, Buk-gu)," operated by Meari Boram Site, baristas with hearing and developmental disabilities work.

The donation provided by Hyundai Heavy Industries and the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation on this day will be used to purchase 900 kg of green coffee beans of four varieties, including Antigua from Guatemala and Tarrazu from Costa Rica, for "Cafe Ecopresso."

The disabled baristas will roast these green beans themselves to produce and sell various coffee products. Especially this year, since the sponsorship amount has doubled compared to last year, allowing the purchase of more green beans, it is expected to further help the economic independence of the facility’s disabled individuals.

A Hyundai Heavy Industries official said, "We were moved by seeing people with severe disabilities in the region overcome their disabilities and grow into confident members of society," adding, "Hyundai Heavy Industries will continue to strive to create a community that coexists with people with disabilities."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy Industries and the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation have been continuously carrying out social contribution activities for people with disabilities, such as providing sponsorship funds this year through the ‘Social Welfare Project Contest’ for projects including a vacation care program for disabled children (Dong-gu Disabled Welfare Center) and the creation of vocational rehabilitation training spaces (Dong-gu Comprehensive Social Welfare Center-affiliated Disabled Daycare Center).
