Confirmed Cases, 5/28 18:30~20:00, 6/1 18:30~19:30
General Voters, Early and Main Voting from 06:00 to 18:00 Same
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] Temporary polling stations for COVID-19 confirmed patients will not be operated in the nationwide simultaneous local elections this June.
According to the Gyeongnam Election Commission, COVID-19 confirmed patients can vote from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on May 28, the second day of early voting, and from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM on June 1, the election day.
As the quarantine authorities have decided to maintain the isolation obligation for COVID-19 confirmed patients, the extended voting time regulation for confirmed patients under Article 155, Paragraph 6 of the Public Official Election Act will be applied.
General voters can vote from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM during both the early voting period and on election day, and voting is not allowed after the closing time.
Since no temporary polling stations for confirmed patients will be set up, COVID-19 confirmed patients can vote inside the polling station using the same method as general voters during the designated voting time.
Confirmed patients who have received temporary outing permission from the quarantine authorities must present ▲ identification card ▲ voting guidance text message for confirmed patients ▲ PCR or rapid antigen test positive notification message with their name at the polling station to verify their status as confirmed patients.
If they arrive before the confirmed patient voting time or if general voters have not finished voting, they must wait outside the polling station and enter only after general voters have completed voting and all have left.
Temporary polling stations for mobility-impaired voters such as the disabled and elderly will be operated.
Voters who have finished voting place their ballots directly into the ballot transport envelope at the temporary polling station, seal it, and then place the sealed envelope into the standardized transport container themselves.
A person designated by the voter moves the transport container to the polling station and inserts the sealed envelope into the ballot box; all processes from sealing to ballot insertion are conducted under the supervision of observers.
Whether a temporary polling station for mobility-impaired voters is installed can be confirmed by searching early voting stations on the Central Election Commission website.
The Election Commission announced that, considering the difficulties in managing voting for confirmed patients due to the extended voting time, special temporary allowances will be paid to voting managers and clerks.
Including allowances, early voting managers will receive 241,000 KRW on the first day and 331,000 KRW on the second day, totaling 572,000 KRW; early voting clerks will receive 181,000 KRW on the first day and 271,000 KRW on the second day, totaling 452,000 KRW; election day voting managers will receive 331,000 KRW, and voting clerks 271,000 KRW.
A Gyeongnam Election Commission official said, “To ensure voters can vote with peace of mind, we will create a safe election environment through thorough quarantine measures such as disinfecting and ventilating polling stations before and after early and main voting days, providing hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes at entrances, and offering vinyl gloves upon request,” adding, “We ask voters to strictly follow personal quarantine measures such as wearing masks inside polling stations, refraining from conversations, and maintaining sufficient distance from other voters.”
