[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 30s who flew a drone over a high-rise apartment in Haeundae, Busan, and secretly filmed residents naked was sentenced to prison again in the appellate court.
On the 23rd, according to the Criminal Division 3 of the Busan District Court (Chief Judge Seong Gi-jun), the appeals of both the defendant and the prosecution were dismissed, and the original sentence was upheld for Mr. A, who was tried for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and was sentenced to 8 months in prison in the first trial.
On the evening of July 28 last year, around 10 p.m., Mr. A flew a drone from the rooftop of an apartment in Haeundae-gu to the LCT building, which is 1.8 km away.
Mr. A secretly filmed a total of four adult men and women who were lying naked inside their homes or were partially undressed using the drone.
After the drone collided with a balcony and fell, a resident reported it to the police. Mr. A was initially detained in court and pleaded for leniency, claiming he did not distribute the filmed footage, but after being sentenced to 8 months in prison in the first trial, both Mr. A and the prosecution appealed, arguing that the sentence was unfair.
The appellate court explained, "The sentencing in the original trial was made within a reasonable range and is deemed appropriate."
