Administered Sleeping Pills and Stole 100 Million Won in Cryptocurrency... Also Falsely Claimed "Received as Settlement for Sexual Assault"

Accused of Threatening to Expose Prostitution
Court: "False Testimony Defamed Victim... Also Caused Confusion in Investigation"

Administered Sleeping Pills and Stole 100 Million Won in Cryptocurrency... Also Falsely Claimed "Received as Settlement for Sexual Assault" A woman in her 20s who gave a sleeping pill to a man she met through a chat app and stole virtual currency worth about 100 million won was sentenced to prison.

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A woman in her 20s was sentenced to prison for stealing virtual currency worth about 100 million won by giving a man she met through a chat application a drink laced with sleeping pills.

The Suwon District Court Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Hwang In-seong) announced on the 22nd that it sentenced A (20), who was indicted on charges of robbery and injury, violation of the Narcotics Control Act, and intimidation, to five years in prison.

The court stated, "Despite having a history of juvenile protection measures, the defendant failed to correct her wrongful behavior and habits and committed a more serious crime. Immediately after the crime, she saved information about the victim's spouse and acquaintances in preparation for the victim reporting to the police, and when the victim demanded the return of the stolen amount, she even threatened to expose the prostitution incident."

Furthermore, the court explained the sentencing rationale, saying, "In the early stages of the investigation, she not only denied the simple crime but also falsely testified that 'the victim tried to sexually assault her and that she received virtual currency as a settlement,' thereby falsely accusing the victim and causing confusion in the investigation, which is highly condemnable."

Earlier, A was indicted on charges of giving B (43) a drink laced with sleeping pills at a motel in Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, around 1 a.m. on June 11 last year, and after B lost consciousness, accessing B's virtual currency account and transferring virtual currency worth about 110 million won to her own account.

Investigations revealed that A first met B through a chat app. After learning that B possessed a large amount of virtual currency, A proposed prostitution, but it was unsuccessful. However, A is known to have lured the victim out under the pretext of "having a drink" and committed the crime.

A is also charged with threatening to expose prostitution-related details to the victim's family after B woke up and protested following the crime.
