[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] According to Indian media such as NDTV on the 22nd (local time), all 10 workers buried in a collapse accident at a tunnel construction site in northern India on the 19th (local time) were found dead after two days.
On the afternoon of the 19th, the entrance of a tunnel suddenly collapsed due to a landslide at a highway construction site in the Ramban mountainous area of Jammu and Kashmir.
As a result of the accident, 13 workers who were digging at the site were buried under rocks and soil.
Soldiers and police were deployed for the search, rescuing 3 people, but 10 remained missing. Authorities mobilized heavy equipment and made every effort to rescue them, but additional landslides continued, making the work difficult.
Experts pointed out that one cause of the accident was the construction company’s failure to even follow basic safety regulations. The accident site is a steep slope, yet rockfall protection devices were not properly installed above the construction site. A police official said, "We have booked the persons involved on charges of negligence," and that a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
