[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A policy agreement for mutual growth between Gwangju and Damyang, and between Damyang and Gwangju, was signed between Kang Gijeong, candidate for mayor of Gwangju, and Lee Byeongno, candidate for Damyang County governor.

The agreement ceremony, held at 10 a.m. on the 21st at the election office of Lee Byeongno, the Democratic Party candidate for Damyang County governor, served as an occasion to confirm and agree on policies for the mutual development of the two cities, and also became an opportunity to build a deep friendship between the two candidates.

The ceremony reflected the will of the two local governments, which have shared history, economy, and culture, to work together as a metropolitan economic living community in the future. They agreed to jointly preserve ecological and cultural resources centered on the Yeongsan River wetlands and to create an exciting tourism belt to revitalize the tourism and MICE industries.

In particular, Lee Byeongno, candidate for Damyang County governor, who has been strongly promoting and attracting attention to the ‘Smart Drone Logistics Industry,’ ‘Health Functional Food Industry (Medi-food),’ and ‘Green MICE Industry,’ defined these as the ‘Three Major Future Transition New Industries of Damyang’ and agreed to cooperate mutually.

In addition, the two candidates signed and exchanged an agreement to improve the Gwangju-Damyang metropolitan transportation system and jointly develop various lifestyle and cultural experience education programs in the future.

At the ceremony, candidate Kang Gijeong said, “Damyang, the source of the Yeongsan River, holds the most important position in Honam and is an absolute living community providing healing, culture, and eco-friendly agricultural products to Gwangju. Since Jeonnam residents hold important events such as weddings and university admissions in Gwangju, Gwangju is always considering what it should do for Jeonnam residents, and I hope we can steadily promote this in the future.”

Candidate Lee Byeongno also emphasized, “If given the opportunity to work with candidate Kang, not only will we solve current issues such as the metropolitan transportation network and green belts, but if we jointly strive for the three new industries, we can achieve groundbreaking job creation as well as remarkable development in agricultural product distribution and consumption promotion.”

Kang Gijeong, waiting for the choice of Gwangju citizens under the slogan “Kang Gijeong is here! Gwangju is changing!”, is presenting a vision to complete the ‘Gwangju New Economic Map’ by completing the industrial ecosystem with five new industrial complexes and five new vitality special zones for next-generation batteries, autonomous vehicles, precision medicine, semiconductors, and MICE industries, in addition to existing industries such as automobiles and AI.

Lee Byeongno, emphasizing his image as an ‘administrative expert’ and reformist based on 40 years of public service under the slogan “New Damyang is made by Lee Byeongno!”, is focusing on policies to create ‘a prosperous wealthy farming village’ through expanded agricultural budgets, implement a Damyang-tailored welfare system ‘Hyangchon Welfare’ to overcome the aging era, and create ‘Damyang-type jobs’ by establishing the 2nd general industrial complex centered on drone logistics and electric vehicle battery industries.
