China Challenges Biden's Visit to Korea: "U.S. Should Not Seek Division"

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Chinese government has taken a stance to check the movements of U.S. President Joe Biden, who arrived in South Korea on the 20th.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing that day, "We take note of the remarks by Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, that President Biden's Asia tour is not aimed at China," and added, "We hope the United States will align its words with its actions."

Spokesperson Wang stated, "We hope the U.S. will discuss cooperation rather than secretly plotting strategies of division and confrontation with regional countries," and said, "We hope they will not create closed and exclusive small groups but rather form open and inclusive groups of friends, avoid causing confusion in the Asia-Pacific region, and do much to contribute to regional peace and development."

Regarding the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), scheduled to launch during President Biden's visit to Japan from the 22nd to the 24th, Wang said, "China believes that any regional cooperation framework should conform to the trend of peace and development in the era, promote mutual trust and cooperation among regional countries, not target third parties or harm the interests of third parties, and should not have obvious selectivity and exclusivity."
