[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The leaders of South Korea and the United States will visit the Korea Aerospace Operations Command, which commands air operations across the Korean Peninsula, on the 22nd. This is interpreted as an intention to publicly demonstrate the ROK-US alliance and deliver a warning message to North Korea.

On the 20th, the Presidential Office spokesperson announced through a press release that during President Biden's three-day, two-night visit to Korea, he will visit the Operations Command at Osan Air Base with President Yoon Seok-yeol before departing on the 22nd. Presidents Yoon and Biden are expected to receive an operational briefing and encourage the troops conducting combined ROK-US operations at this location.

The Aerospace Operations Command, located in an underground bunker at Osan Air Base, is a strategic command that directs and controls aerospace operations on the Korean Peninsula. It is known to control U.S. Air Force assets stationed in Korea within the Korean airspace and identify all aircraft entering and exiting the airspace over the peninsula.

It is reported that no previous U.S. president visiting Korea has directly visited the Aerospace Operations Command. Some view this as a move to successfully hold the ROK-US summit, express the firm will of the alliance, and simultaneously send a warning message to North Korea.
