[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] As retailers compete to hold wine markets, the popularity of wine continues this year as well. The main customers were in their 20s to 40s, and many high-priced wines over 50,000 won were sold.
On the 20th, Emart held a first-half wine market from the 12th to the 18th, offering over 1,600 items at up to 70% discount, and increased the quantity of popular items by 20% compared to previous years. Through advance planning and bulk orders, many wines cheaper than the average overseas selling price were introduced. Daily special-priced items such as Opus One, Almaviva, and Ch?teau Talbot sold out by the morning of the same day. High-priced wine products were also popular. Limited wines sold by date were sold out within 30 minutes to an hour after the store opened, and most products sold out by the morning. Demand for high-priced wines was also high, with sets of American Napa Chardonnay over 200,000 won gaining popularity. In the case of whiskey, scenes of customers lining up in front of the store from 2 a.m. for early opening runs were also seen. The Macallan 18-Year Sherry Cask sold out immediately upon opening, and Hibiki Harmony set a record by selling out within an hour.
GS25 is also conducting an integrated online and offline wine market this month at over 620 stores nationwide and on the online liquor platform Wine25Plus.
