[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Yeongcheon City in Gyeongbuk conducted an on-site experience workshop for MZ generation public officials.

This specialized workshop was prepared in response to changes in the public service sector as the baby boomer generation, who led the public service, retire and the MZ generation rapidly fills the ranks.

In Yeongcheon City, Gyeongbuk, the MZ generation accounts for 57% of all employees, and the number of new public officials from non-local backgrounds is also rapidly increasing.

To facilitate smooth adaptation to the public service and enhance understanding of the region, the city conducted the ‘New Public Officials Yeongcheon Awareness On-site Practical Workshop’ focused on practical lectures and field learning for 199 participants over three weeks from April 19 to May 11.

Senior public officials took the podium to deliver essential work topics such as key policies, budget planning and execution, local legislation, press release writing, and understanding official document preparation, as well as customized lectures by sector including facilities, social welfare, and agriculture to pass on work know-how.

In the field learning sessions, experiences were centered around activities such as Bohyeonsan Dam zip wire, Wood Culture Experience Center, and Combat Memorial Park to explore issues and improvement directions from the perspective of external tourists.

A new public official who attended the workshop said, “Touring around Yeongcheon City made me feel a sense of belonging and pride as a public official of our city,” adding, “It also made me want to work harder for the development of Yeongcheon.”

A Yeongcheon City official stated, “As a result of the workshop, 117 creative ideas were discovered,” and added, “We will continue to seek ways to equip flexible administrative capabilities in line with the changing times.”
