[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Sang-ik, the Democratic Party candidate for Hampyeong County Governor, held a kickoff rally for the June 1 local elections at 11 a.m. on the 19th in front of the Hanaro Mart in Hampyeong-eup, officially launching his election campaign.
Under the slogan "Confident Governor, Solid Hampyeong," the rally was held successfully with about 500 attendees, including Democratic Party National Assembly member Lee Gae-ho, candidates for provincial and county council endorsed by the Democratic Party, party members, and supporters.
At the event, candidate Lee said, "Despite the busy farming season and the anticipation of a good harvest, farmers are suffering from rising prices of agricultural materials, feed, and fuel, as well as labor shortages. However, the earnestness of the residents who quietly work hard and their determination to overcome these challenges will surely lead to overcoming them."
He continued, "I am grateful for the overwhelming support from the residents during the county governor candidate primary," adding, "In the face of the public's desire for unity and economic development, the conflicts and divisions that flared up every election season no longer have a place."
He also emphasized, "Many people overcome adversity to succeed, but many also ignore the difficult realities of the poor and powerless after success. Upon taking office as county governor, I transformed the governor's official residence, a symbol of authoritarianism, into a lifelong learning center and donated my entire salary to a talent development fund."
He pledged, "New winds of hope are blowing in Hampyeong with the relocation of the Kumho Tire factory and the settlement of automobile parts companies in the Bitgreen Industrial Complex area. I will strive to make the Bitgreen Industrial Complex a hub for automobile parts production and attract many excellent companies through the expansion of the Haebo Agricultural and Industrial Complex to create jobs and revitalize the economy."
Finally, he appealed, "Based on my two years of experience in county administration and a lifetime as a farmer and distribution manager, I will take responsibility for the development of Hampyeong together with its residents. Please give overwhelming support to Lee Sang-ik, a unifying, integrating, and capable county governor."
At the support rally, National Assembly member Lee Gae-ho said, "Following the failure to continue the democratic government in the last presidential election, administrative difficulties are expected ahead. Since this local election is crucial for the Democratic Party, which has fallen to the opposition, I ask the residents to actively support Democratic Party candidates, including Lee Sang-ik for Hampyeong County Governor, as well as candidates for governor, provincial council, and county council, to achieve overwhelming victory."
