Namwon-si to Promote 'Lights Out Campaign on the 22nd of Every Month' Until October

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced on the 19th that it will promote the ‘Turn Off the Lights Campaign on the 22nd of Every Month’ until October.

The city plans to carry out the ‘Turn Off the Lights on the 22nd of Every Month’ campaign six times over six months until October, starting from the 22nd, to raise awareness of the ‘Earth Day (22.4.22.) Lights Out Event’ and to promote practical actions to overcome the climate crisis.

For this campaign, to encourage participation from many citizens, 50 citizens who send a text message with a certification photo taken after turning off the lights at 8 p.m. on the day (the 22nd of every month) will receive an incentive of 5,000 KRW in Namwon Love Gift Certificates.

As a precaution, it is mandatory to photograph a clock to verify the time, and if the surroundings are too dark, lights from a TV, cellphone, or other devices can be used.

To encourage participation from various groups, certification of turning off store signs is also allowed.

Furthermore, to ensure continuous practice rather than a one-time event, 10 outstanding participants who participate every month for six months and those who certify on SNS will be selected and given a participation benefit of 50,000 KRW.

A city official said, “Let’s think about the preciousness of the Earth during this short 10-minute period and start practicing in our daily lives right now to realize Namwon City’s 2050 carbon neutrality.”

Meanwhile, following the government’s ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality Vision Declaration’ in 2020, the city declared ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality’ in March last year and established a vision with three major goals: ‘a carbon-neutral city achieved with citizens, a green creative city happy with citizens, and a pleasant natural ecological city,’ along with six promotion areas.
