Jeonju City Operates Public-Private Council for Baekseok Reservoir Development

Focus on Creating Eco-Friendly Waterside Spaces

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] On the 19th, Jeonju City announced that it will form and operate a council composed of both public and private sectors to prepare the "Basic Plan for the Development of Baekseok Reservoir in Songcheon-dong (Draft)" reflecting opinions from various sectors.

The Baekseok Reservoir Public-Private Council will include environmental experts, civic groups, resident representatives, city council members, and public officials to present diverse opinions.

The council plans to preserve the ecological landscape of Baekseok Reservoir as much as possible while providing a comfortable resting place for citizens using the reservoir.

The plan aims to create a balanced approach between ecological preservation and enhancing citizen convenience.

Considering the increasing demand for citizen rest areas at Baekseok Reservoir, Jeonju City has been establishing a basic development plan for the reservoir surroundings to create a healing space combining sunset views, forests, and lakes, where people can enjoy walking and resting in nature.

However, recently, the ecological preservation value has been confirmed as endangered wildlife such as swans and greater white-fronted geese have been found inhabiting Baekseok Reservoir. Reflecting this, the city has decided to create an eco-friendly space.

Mayor Kim Seung-su of Jeonju emphasized, "Jeonju has been developing Deokjin Pond, Ajung Lake, Gijije, and Osongje into premium lake parks and creating key gardens throughout the city to become a sustainable ecological city where people and nature coexist and biodiversity thrives. We will work with environmental and ecological experts and civil society to prepare and provide plans that enhance both the ecological functions of Baekseok Reservoir and citizen convenience."
