[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Dongkook Pharmaceutical announced on the 19th that it has launched "Karitopoten," a herbal ingredient-based medication for improving benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Many middle-aged and older men experience benign prostatic hyperplasia but often neglect it, thinking it is simply part of the aging process, or rely solely on health supplements. However, BPH is a progressive disease that worsens over time, and if left untreated, it can cause urethral obstruction, bladder and kidney function decline, making it necessary to manage it from the early stages with proven pharmaceuticals.
Karitopoten is a herbal ingredient-based BPH improvement medication whose efficacy and safety have been proven through large-scale, long-term clinical studies and usage experience in Europe. It improves urinary symptoms caused by prostate enlargement such as nocturia, residual urine, frequent urination, and decreased urine volume.
The main ingredient, Cucurbita seed oil extract (extracted from Western pumpkin seeds), is a herbal component containing various pharmacologically active substances such as unsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols. It has been traditionally used in Europe for treating urinary tract problems and urological diseases.
According to clinical research on 2,245 BPH patients using Cucurbita seed oil extract, symptoms such as nocturia, frequent urination, and residual urine improved from the first month of intake, and after three months, the frequency of nocturia decreased by more than 60% (from 2.35 times before intake to 0.94 times after intake). Long-term clinical studies over 12 months also demonstrated excellent safety, confirming no side effects.
Karitopoten is an over-the-counter drug available at pharmacies without a prescription. It should be taken as one capsule twice a day. For more details, inquiries can be made through Dongkook Pharmaceutical's consumer consultation center.
A Dongkook Pharmaceutical official stated, "For effective management of benign prostatic hyperplasia, it is best to choose a proven product and manage it consistently," adding, "Unlike health supplements containing saw palmetto, whose functionality is 'may help maintain prostate health,' Karitopoten is a pharmaceutical recognized for its efficacy and effectiveness in improving urinary symptoms such as nocturia, residual urine, and frequent urination caused by BPH, making it significantly different from health supplements."
