Seoul City Provides Free Support for 'Workplace Sexual Harassment Prevention and Incident Investigation' for Small Businesses with Fewer Than 30 Employees

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will provide free support, including legally mandated sexual harassment prevention education, consulting, and investigation and deliberation in case of incidents, targeting small-scale workplaces with fewer than 30 employees, which account for 98% of all workplaces in the city but have weak legal and institutional sexual harassment prevention systems.

On the 19th, the Seoul Workplace Sexual Harassment and Violence Center stated that small-scale workplaces often face difficulties due to the lack of procedures for handling sexual harassment incidents within the company. To protect workers' rights to work safely and improve the working environment, continuous support will be provided.

Interested small-scale workplaces can apply through the Seoul Workplace Sexual Harassment and Violence Prevention Center website to receive ?sexual harassment prevention education ?organizational management consulting ?training for grievance handlers ?and incident handling support.

The ‘Sexual Harassment Prevention Education’ dispatches professional instructors to small-scale workplaces to conduct customized, case-centered lectures tailored to the workplace. ‘Organizational Management Consulting’ supports the establishment of incident handling regulations and prevention guidelines that can be immediately followed when sexual harassment issues arise, and provides diagnosis and improvement plans for internal organizational culture that causes sexual harassment.

‘Training for Grievance Handlers’ delivers professional content about the roles of sexual harassment and sexual violence counselors in an easy-to-understand manner to strengthen response capabilities. ‘Incident Handling Support’ assigns experts to workplaces where sexual harassment incidents have occurred to assist with legal procedures, precautions, coaching, investigation, and deliberation, aiming for fair and objective resolution of incidents.

Meanwhile, from the 19th, a labor committee relief system for violations of protective measures for victims of workplace sexual harassment has been implemented, making it necessary for workplaces to establish prevention and response systems for workplace sexual harassment. Kim Seon-soon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Policy Office, said, “Despite the importance of preventing workplace sexual harassment and sexual violence, it is unfortunate that small-scale workplaces are unable to establish prevention systems due to their conditions. Through substantial prevention education and organizational management consulting, we will support Seoul’s small-scale workplaces in strengthening their autonomous resolution capabilities and creating workplaces safe from sexual harassment.”
