Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Sell 89,000 Units in Europe in April... 13.2% Increase Year-on-Year


[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Company and Kia's sales volume in Europe for April increased by more than 10% compared to the same period last year. Despite the overall market contraction, they expanded their market share through increased sales.


According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 18th, Hyundai and Kia's sales volume in Europe last month reached 88,952 units, a 13.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Hyundai sold 41,227 units, and Kia sold 47,725 units, marking increases of 14.0% and 12.5%, respectively.


The European market size in April was 830,447 units, a 20.2% decrease compared to the same period last year. Despite the overall market decline, Hyundai and Kia explained that their market share rose due to increased sales.


With the sales increase, their market share also rose compared to April last year. Hyundai and Kia's market share last April was 10.7%, up 3.1 percentage points from the same period last year. Hyundai's share was 5.0%, up 1.5 percentage points, and Kia's was 5.7%, up 1.6 percentage points.


Notably, Hyundai and Kia's monthly market share exceeded 10% for the first time in three months since January. Hyundai and Kia recorded market shares of 10.3% in January, 9.5% in February, and 9.6% in March.

The best-selling vehicle at Hyundai last month was the Tucson, with a total of 9,167 units sold. It was followed by the Kona and i30, with 6,665 and 4,300 units sold, respectively.


For Kia, the Ceed was the best-selling model with 12,679 units, and the Niro was the second most chosen vehicle by consumers with 6,727 units.


Among eco-friendly models, Hyundai and Kia's best-selling model was the Niro, recording 6,727 units. It was followed by the Kona with 4,971 units and the Tucson with 3,684 units.


Among electric vehicles, the Niro EV led with 3,671 units sold, followed by the EV6 with 2,700 units. Next were the Kona Electric (2,629 units), Ioniq 5 (2,086 units), Soul EV (544 units), and Ioniq Electric (424 units).


The Ioniq 5, an E-GMP dedicated electric vehicle, has been tracked since May last year, accumulating 29,346 units sold over one year, chosen by consumers. The EV6 has been tracked since last October, with cumulative sales reaching 19,395 units as of April.
