[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency (Chief Kim Inchang) announced on the 18th that it will conduct a comprehensive maritime training exercise for about four weeks until the 10th of next month, involving 19 patrol vessels and 22 teams from each police station.
On the same day, starting at 9 a.m., the Jeju Maritime Police conducted the first half of the year’s comprehensive maritime training, targeting four vessels including a 3000-ton patrol vessel belonging to the Jeju Maritime Police Station berthed at Jeju Port.
The comprehensive maritime training will be held six times in total until the 10th of next month, with about 490 maritime police officers from 22 teams participating. This includes seven patrol vessels from the Jeju Station and eight patrol vessels from the Seogwipo Station.
Today's training focused on inspecting and educating the operation status of key equipment on patrol vessels, conducted as a self-directed exercise to secure mission performance capabilities at sea and strengthen individual competencies.
In particular, a comprehensive situational problem-solving training was conducted by providing various scenarios to encourage all participating patrol vessels to think and reconsider, aiming to improve teamwork among crew members and verify mission performance capabilities.
The maritime police plan to inspect the operational capabilities of various equipment related to safety, rescue, first aid, armament, maintenance, and pollution control handled by the core departments of patrol vessel operation, including navigation, communication, and engineering, as well as emergency response methods, self-training, and maintenance history.
They also intend to check the management status of key equipment on patrol vessels and verify whether they have effective mission performance capabilities in emergency situations in the special maritime environment.
A Jeju Maritime Police official said, “We will conduct practical and substantial comprehensive maritime training to ensure that there are no gaps in security and rescue when various incidents and accidents occur at sea,” adding, “We will continue to strive to protect the lives and property of the people and to secure maritime sovereignty in the Jeju sea.”
