Gyeonggi Governor Support, Kim Eun-hye 43.8% vs Kim Dong-yeon 43.2%... Neck-and-Neck Within Margin of Error [Realmeter]

If Unified with Candidate Kang Yong-seok, Kim Eun-hye 46.5% vs Kim Dong-yeon 40.6%

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the June 1 local elections, Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, and Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate, are showing a close race within the margin of error.

On the 18th, Realmeter conducted a survey commissioned by MBN from the 16th to the 17th targeting 806 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi Province regarding 'support for Gyeonggi Province governor candidates.' The results showed that 43.8% chose Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party, while 43.2% chose Kim Dong-yeon of the Democratic Party. The difference between the two candidates was 0.6 percentage points, within the margin of error, indicating a very close contest.


Next, independent candidate Kang Yong-seok received 5.5%, Justice Party candidate Hwang Soon-sik 0.9%, Progressive Party candidate Song Young-joo 0.7%, and Basic Income Party candidate Seo Tae-sung 0.3%. Respondents who answered 'none' accounted for 1.5%, and those who said 'don't know' were 4.2%.


When asked who they think will be elected governor of Gyeonggi Province regardless of their support, Kim Dong-yeon received 43.6%, and Kim Eun-hye 43.5%, with a gap of 0.1 percentage points between the two candidates.


If Kim Eun-hye and independent candidate Kang Yong-seok unify and Kim runs as the single candidate, Kim's support rate would be 46.5%, while Kim Dong-yeon would have 40.6%, showing a difference of 5.9 percentage points within the margin of error.


If the unification is with Kang Yong-seok as the candidate, Kim Dong-yeon would have 47.5%, and Kang would have 21.0%, with a gap of 26.5 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.


Regarding the most urgent task that Gyeonggi Province should prioritize, 'stabilizing housing prices and real estate policies' received the highest response at 26.7%. This was followed by 'attracting businesses and expanding jobs' at 18.4%, 'expanding transportation infrastructure' at 16.4%, 'addressing low birth rates and aging population' at 12.1%, and 'expanding welfare' at 11.9%, all showing differences within the margin of error. Next were 'improving education and childcare support' at 4.4%, 'COVID-19 prevention and damage support' at 4.1%, and 'revitalizing cultural tourism industry' at 3.4%.


The response rate for this survey was 5.6%, and the sampling error was ±3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
