[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 19th, the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office will conduct a 'Water Pollution Accident Prevention and Response Training' for about 30 local government officials near the Naju Containment Reserve Center in cooperation with the Korea Environment Corporation.
This training will begin with theoretical education at the Korea Environment Corporation's Naju Containment Reserve Center on water pollution accident response and containment methods, as well as the use of containment equipment, followed by on-site training including a demonstration of containment drills simulating an oil spill accident near Hojajeong upstream of Seungchonbo on the Yeongsangang River.
Additionally, the local government officials will be briefed on maintaining a cooperative system for accident response, rapid situation dissemination, and accident response procedures.
Kim Seung-hee, head of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “Rapid initial response is the most important factor when a water pollution accident occurs,” and added, “Through this training, we hope to strengthen the response capabilities of the responsible public officials so that in the event of an actual accident, swift and accurate initial actions will help minimize environmental damage.”
