In the Past Week, Nationwide Student COVID-19 Cases at 20,000s... Decrease Compared to Previous Week



[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The number of students nationwide confirmed with COVID-19 has remained in the 20,000 range for two consecutive weeks.


According to the Ministry of Education on the 18th, from May 10 to 16, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide was 21,825. This is a decrease of 6,349 compared to the previous week.


The number of student cases over the past four weeks has been on a declining trend: ▲April 19?25: 57,352 ▲April 26?May 2: 31,116 ▲May 3?9: 28,174.


By school level, the number of confirmed cases is as follows: elementary school (9,808), middle school (5,644), high school (5,379), kindergarten (905), and special schools, etc. (89).


In the past week, the total number of cases among all school-age individuals was 46,059, accounting for 20% of all confirmed cases. This is an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous week. The proportion of student cases is 9.5% of the total, a decrease of 1.0 percentage point from the previous week.


As of the 16th, 78.1% of students participated in the self-diagnosis app. The number of students who received instructions to refrain from attending school was 21,105.


At 24 mobile PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing sites operating nationwide, a total of 183,260 specimens were collected from February 28 to May 16. Among these, 22,703 cases (12.4%) tested positive.


The number of confirmed cases among school staff in the past week was 2,992. The cumulative number of confirmed cases among school staff is 194,173.


During the same period, the number of confirmed cases among university students was 1,625, and among university staff was 277.
