Checking the Status of Data-Driven Administration to Establish a Scientific Foundation for National Governance
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 18th that it has finalized an inspection plan and will conduct a "Data-Based Administration Status Inspection" targeting 467 institutions by the end of this year to promote objective and scientific administration based on data.
Last year, the Ministry conducted inspections for the first time targeting central administrative agencies (45) and local governments (17 metropolitan, 226 basic) to raise awareness of data-based administration overall and create a practical opportunity to spread the necessity of data utilization. This year, to encourage the establishment of a data-based administrative culture throughout public institutions, the scope has been expanded to include public institutions.
The inspection will be conducted on 467 institutions (central 45, metropolitan 17, basic 226, public institutions 179), including some public institutions under central administrative agencies and local governments. The inspection team is composed of various private experts in information and communication technology, law, and management, and will conduct inspections on 8 indicators across 4 areas.
The main inspection areas are the 4 fields: ▲ Establishment of a data-based administration promotion system ▲ Promotion of data sharing between administrative and public institutions ▲ Administrative innovation based on data ▲ Strengthening data utilization capabilities and fostering a data culture.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will conduct a comprehensive inspection from October to December and, based on the inspection results, recommend improvements to institutions with insufficient data-based administration operations to enhance their capabilities.
Park Deok-su, Director of Public Data Policy, stated, “The importance of data utilization as a core resource determining national competitiveness across all aspects of citizens' lives is being emphasized,” adding, “Through the status inspection, we will identify factors hindering the activation of data-based administration and improve related policies and systems to establish a foundation for working scientifically and realize a government that works well.”
