[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] The Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the Gyeonggi-do Election Commission on the 17th against Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, for violating the Public Official Election Act by making false claims about the domestic education period of Kim Dong-yeon's son.

In the complaint, the Democratic Party stated, "Candidate Kim Eun-hye published a commentary titled 'Dirt Spoon Emotional Appeal Kim Dong-yeon Candidate, Respond to the Son's Dual Citizenship Controversy' on her official blog site on the 15th, spreading false information about Kim Dong-yeon's son without specific evidence."

Earlier, Hong Jong-gi, spokesperson for Kim Eun-hye's campaign, said on the 16th, "Kim Dong-yeon's son, who studied in the U.S., was born there thanks to his father, attended elementary, middle, and university in the U.S., received scholarships as a U.S. citizen, and is known to have only attended an international school in Korea," adding, "Answer whether the son's education course, which ordinary people can only dream of, aligns with Kim Dong-yeon's 'poverty appeal' and 'dirt spoon appeal.'"

In response, the Democratic Party said, "The statement in the commentary that 'Kim Dong-yeon's son attended elementary, middle, and university all in the U.S., and the period of education in Korea was limited to Yongsan International School' is false," and clarified, "Kim Dong-yeon's son attended kindergarten and elementary school in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, and except for high school, he received education in Korea for over six years."

The Democratic Party also added, "Candidate Kim Eun-hye, who refers to herself as a 'Gyeonggi Mom' and has emphasized resolving educational disparities in Gyeonggi Province, has been embroiled in a 'fake Gyeonggi Mom' controversy," and "She is spreading baseless false information about Kim Dong-yeon's son to cover up her political controversies."

Meanwhile, on the same day, four Democratic Party lawmakers from the Gyeonggi region?Kang Deuk-gu, Kim Cheol-min, Ahn Min-seok, and Lee Tan-hee?who are members of the National Assembly's Education Committee, held a press conference urging, "Kim Eun-hye, who mocked residents while claiming to be a Gyeonggi Mom, should withdraw from the Gyeonggi Province governor race."

The lawmakers pointed out, "Kim Eun-hye's son attended elementary school in Seoul before going abroad for early study, attending an overseas school with annual expenses reaching 100 million won," and criticized, "As criticism of the 'fake Gyeonggi Mom' increased, she launched a diversionary attack involving Kim Dong-yeon's son to obscure the issue."

They further demanded, "Kim Eun-hye is a figure who does not align with the 'fairness and common sense' that President Yoon Seok-yeol has emphasized so much," and called on her to "apologize to the 'real Gyeonggi Moms' hurt by the fake Gyeonggi Mom controversy and withdraw from the Gyeonggi Province governor race."
