[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The 'former golf emperor' Jack Nicklaus (USA, photo) received a huge offer from the LIV Golf Series, led by Saudi Arabian capital, but declined.
On the 17th (Korean time), Golf Digest USA reported, "The LIV Golf Series, which will open its inaugural event in June, offered Nicklaus a large sum of $100 million (127.6 billion KRW) if he helped launch the new tour." Nicklaus stated, "I was offered $100 million to take on a role similar to what Greg Norman (Australia) is doing now," and added, "I declined because I am in a position to support the PGA Tour."
The LIV Golf Series is a new tour scheduled to hold its opening event on June 9 in London, UK. The total prize money is $20 million, with the winner's prize being $4 million. With its enormous financial power, it has the potential to disrupt the world men's golf order currently divided between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour). Phil Mickelson (USA), Lee Westwood (England), Sergio Garcia (Spain), and Martin Kaymer (Germany) are among those planning to participate in the LIV Series.
