Cultural Heritage Administration, Traditional Craft Product Planning Idea Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Cultural Heritage Administration's National Intangible Heritage Center and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation will hold the "2022 Traditional Craft Product Planning Idea Contest" from the 17th to June 30th.

This contest is part of the "Traditional Craft Product Design Development (Collaboration) Support Project," which the National Intangible Heritage Center is promoting to develop products that add modern design and usability to traditional crafts. The event is organized to raise awareness among more citizens about the value of national intangible cultural heritage traditional crafts and to promote the sale of traditional craft products. It is planned to develop Korean traditional craft products into cultural products that can be easily accessed in daily life.

The contest is open to individuals or groups residing in Korea, including students and office workers interested in traditional crafts. Applicants can submit original and feasible design drafts for furniture, fashion, and daily miscellaneous goods that can be used in everyday life, utilizing traditional craft techniques from national intangible cultural heritage skill fields (such as Somokjang, Najeonjang, Hwaggakjang, Ipsajang, Nubijang, etc.).

Submitted works will be comprehensively evaluated by experts based on how well they reflect the characteristics of traditional craft categories, their commercial viability, and whether they can be produced as actual products. Awards include Grand Prize (Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner Award) 1 winner with 5 million KRW, Excellence Award (National Intangible Heritage Center Director Award) 1 winner with 2 million KRW, and Merit Award (Foundation Chairman Award) 3 winners with 1 million KRW each.

The announcement period is from the 17th to June 30th, and the submission period is from June 24th to June 30th. Applications can be submitted by referring to the announcement posted on the National Intangible Heritage Center website or the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation website, and submitting the online application form (Google Form) and required submission materials (including design drafts) via email.
