[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is carrying out replacement work on aging water pipes that have been in use for over 30 years.
The Suwon Waterworks Office announced on the 17th that it will conduct replacement work on aging water pipes at three locations, including the area around Singok Children's Park in Seryu-dong, by the end of next month.
The water pipe replacement work will take place in the areas of 1156 Seryu-dong, Gwonseon-gu (Singok Children's Park), 1096 Gwonseon-dong (Jungang Children's Park), and 85 Jeongja-dong and 468 Songjuk-dong, Jangan-gu.
To this end, the office plans to complete the detailed design within this month and replace approximately 2.3 km (D100~300mm) of water pipes that were installed between 1983 and 1990 and have been in use for over 30 years. The total project cost is 1.46 billion KRW.
Suwon City is continuously promoting projects such as ▲replacement of aging pipes ▲expansion of water supply networks in vulnerable areas ▲maintenance works to provide citizens with clean tap water and improve the water flow rate.
From 2013 to 2021, the city invested 57.828 billion KRW to replace a total length of 116.4 km of aging pipes.
A city official stated, "Once the construction is completed, we will be able to supply clean tap water to citizens stably," adding, "We will secure the reliability of water supply administration by providing households with tap water that they can drink with confidence."
