34,948 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide as of 9 PM

According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, a total of 33,948 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is an increase of 21,031 cases compared to the 12,917 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.

The number of tests, which had decreased over the weekend, surged on Monday, leading to an increase in confirmed cases. Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases to be announced on the 17th is likely to increase further to the mid-30,000s.

Of the confirmed cases, 16,230 (47.8%) were from the Seoul metropolitan area, and 17,718 (52.2%) were from non-metropolitan areas.

By region, the numbers are as follows: Gyeonggi 8,947, Seoul 5,889, Gyeongnam 2,281, Daegu 2,075, Gyeongbuk 1,990, Incheon 1,649, Chungnam 1,394, Gangwon 1,375, Jeonbuk 1,371, Jeonnam 1,255, Chungbuk 1,188, Busan 1,177, Daejeon 1,077, Gwangju 870, Ulsan 834, Sejong 294, and Jeju 282.

Over the past week from the 10th, the daily new confirmed cases were 49,923 → 43,913 → 35,898 → 32,451 → 29,581 → 25,434 → 13,296, averaging 32,928 cases per day.
