[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] The International Gas Union (IGU) Board of Directors meeting will be held from the 20th to the 23rd at the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk.

This event is a linked event of the 2022 World Gas Conference held at Daegu EXCO during the same period, and it is the first international event held in Gyeongju since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board meeting will be attended by about 300 people, including representatives from 85 full member countries of the IGU and executives from global gas companies.

Over four days, major meetings and dinners of the union secretariat, presidium, management, and coordination committee will be held at Lahan Select Hotel and Hwangryongwon.

Participation from major member countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and the Netherlands is also expected, raising hopes that it will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local MICE industry.

The International Gas Union is a non-profit organization founded in 1931 when representatives of gas engineers from 11 countries gathered in Switzerland, led by the French Gas Association.

Currently, it consists of 85 full member countries and 77 associate member countries, totaling 162 member countries, which account for more than 95% of the world's gas trade volume.

Kim Ho-jin, Acting Mayor of Gyeongju, said, “With this linked event of the World Gas Conference being held in the Gyeongju Bomun area, it is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and tourism promotion.”
