Post-Evaluation of Yoon Seok-yeol's Policy Speech
Criticism on Content Deficiency and Order of Remarks
[Asia Economy Reporter Junyi Park] On the 16th, Kim Nam-guk, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, harshly criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol's policy speech, saying, "The content is insufficient and many necessary elements are missing."
In a phone interview with this outlet on the same day, Rep. Kim said, "Since this is the first policy speech in the National Assembly, it should have included messages about how the government plans to manage the country on a macro level, along with requests, goals, and values, but all of those were missing," and he pointed out, "He should have revealed what he wants to try this year and the actual plans to do so."
Regarding the supplementary budget bill, he also criticized, "The current inflation-driven price surge is a serious concern," and added, "(In this situation) there was no explanation about the purpose, necessity, or urgency of why the supplementary budget is needed."
He emphasized, "No concrete rationale for the necessity of the supplementary budget was presented at all."
He continued, "There were many abrupt topics," saying, "The speech shifted suddenly from talking about instability in domestic and international financial markets to security issues."
Regarding the emphasis on reforms such as 'pension reform' and 'labor reform,' he said, "There are no specific details on whether there will be a strong reform drive in the first half of the year or if there is just strong will."
