[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized on the 16th the Democratic Party's claim that "someone must be sacrificed to appoint someone" regarding the nomination consent bill for Prime Minister candidate Han Deok-soo, calling it a typical example of old-fashioned politics.

In a radio interview that day, Floor Leader Kwon said, "The nomination consent bill for the Prime Minister should be processed first," adding, "Whether it is approved or rejected, it is proper to hold a plenary session and process it. And both sides should take responsibility for the outcome."

He continued, "When did the President sign and send the first agenda item to the National Assembly? It was sent on the 10th," pointing out, "Even after a week, there has been no talk of scheduling a plenary session. The Democratic Party is trying to avoid responsibility."

When asked whether the appointment of Prime Minister candidate Han Deok-soo is linked to the approval of Health and Welfare Minister candidate Jeong Ho-young and Justice Minister candidate Han Dong-hoon, he said, "This is not a modern-day hereditary punishment, nor are Han Deok-soo and Jeong Ho-young related by kinship, so imposing such conditions is problematic," adding, "Each case should be judged individually, and if the Democratic Party thinks the President's decision is wrong, they can criticize it. It is up to the people to decide whom to support."

He then said, "How unfair it must be for candidate Han," and questioned, "If they say they will appoint him only after Jeong Ho-young is dropped, isn't that treating candidate Jeong as a dependent variable?"
