[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] It is reported that Russian forces are also withdrawing troops from Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine. Western media have interpreted this as a significant shift in the war situation since the Russian forces withdrew from Kyiv.

The American daily The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 3rd (local time), citing Ukrainian and Western officials, that Russia has pulled troops from Kharkiv, where the war situation is turning unfavorable. However, the withdrawn troops are expected to be redeployed to the southeast.

Russia captured the city of Izium, located two hours southeast of Kharkiv, last month and is known to be reinforcing its forces in that area.

This change is interpreted as a strategic move to achieve results in the ongoing military operations in the Donbas region.
