Major Drive to Increase Cargo Volume at Gwangyang Port Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeong In-hwa, an independent candidate who completed candidate registration for the mayoral election of Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 13th an industrial economy pledge to establish a next-generation materials and components industry cluster such as secondary batteries and to carry out a project to increase cargo volume at Gwangyang Port.
Regarding the establishment of the next-generation materials and components industry cluster, Candidate Jeong stated that he would promote △building a secondary battery production value chain (attracting and expanding factories producing precursors, lithium, nickel, cathode materials, and anode materials) △attracting carbon-neutral renewable energy industries (expanding hydrogen and battery recycling industries) △forming a committee to promote renewable energy and new industries △forming a committee to attract the relocation of POSCO Chemical headquarters to Gwangyang.
Candidate Jeong also promised to realize a carbon-neutral city by prioritizing the attraction of eco-friendly companies, inducing the introduction of carbon emission reduction technologies, and expanding the distribution of electric and hydrogen vehicles (expanding charging stations and increasing support for purchasing eco-friendly vehicles).
To increase the stagnant cargo volume of Gwangyang Port, he plans to vigorously promote a project to attract cargo to the Gwangyang Bay area by expanding hinterlands and to attract cargo from the Jeolla region and nationwide through double-tracking of the Gyeongjeon Line. He also intends to establish a smart port at Gwangyang Port and create a demand-oriented port infrastructure.
Candidate Jeong proposed converting part of the container terminal into an airport dedicated to air cargo, maintaining the container terminal function on the east side dock, and converting the west side dock into an airport dedicated to air cargo.
Additionally, Candidate Jeong announced plans to further develop industrial complexes such as Sepung Industrial Complex, Donghoan, and Sagok District Agricultural and Industrial Complex, and to create the Gwangyang Technovalley and Gwangyang Bay Area Hydrogen Energy Park, aiming to make Gwangyang City a truly industrial and economic city.
