[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Byeong-nae, the Democratic Party candidate for mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju, officially registered as a candidate for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections on the morning of the 12th and pledged victory in the June 1 local elections.
On the same morning, Candidate Kim paid respects at the National 5.18 Democratic Cemetery, then directly visited the Nam-gu Election Commission to complete the registration process for the Gwangju Nam-gu mayoral election.
Candidate Kim said, “Through victory in this local election, I will successfully complete the tasks I have undertaken as the 7th elected mayor of Nam-gu and will continuously promote the preparations and plans for the sustainable development of Nam-gu without interruption,” expressing his thoughts on registering as a candidate.
Promising uninterrupted development of Nam-gu, Candidate Kim presented the ‘3UP’ pledges for sustainable development of Nam-gu, which include ▲ speeding up Nam-gu’s development ▲ improving residents’ quality of life ▲ increasing residents’ happiness.
Originally from Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do, Candidate Kim graduated from Jodae High School and Gwangju University. He has served as president of the student council at Gwangju University, aide to Gwangju Nam-gu Congressman Kang Woon-tae, director of the Gwangju City Hall Civil Complaints Office, deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party central committee, and vice chairman of the Democratic Party Policy Committee.
Having served as an administrative officer in the Office of Political Affairs at the Blue House under the Moon Jae-in administration, Candidate Kim ran for mayor of Nam-gu in the 7th nationwide simultaneous local elections in 2018 and was elected as the youngest local government head in the Honam region. He currently serves as a policy advisory member of the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization and as a policy advisory member of the Korea Sports Council.
