BioX Participates in Demonstration Project for Conversion of Unused Biomass into Energy

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] BioX announced on the 12th that it has been finally selected for the 43 billion KRW-scale "Unused Biomass Utilization Energy Conversion Demonstration Technology Development" support project, which is overseen by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute and led by Samchully.

The technology development project is led by Samchully, a comprehensive energy specialist company conducting multifaceted businesses in energy, eco-friendliness, and lifestyle culture. BioX is responsible for the commercialization research by developing and demonstrating high-purity biogas technology using hydrogen, including construction, installation, design, and operation of the facilities.

Joint research and development institutions include Inha University, SK Incheon Petrochem, Korea Ceramic Technology Institute, KEC System, Pusan National University, Hanyang University, Korea Testing Laboratory, WENI, Korea Energy Technology Research Institute, and University of Seoul. An industry-academia-research consortium will be established to conduct research and development over a total of five years.

BioX plans to develop biological upgrading technology to convert the microbial fuel cell-based biohydrogen under development into biomethane. Performance indicators such as high-purity biohydrogen and methane conversion rates, conversion speed, and stable continuous operation will be evaluated, and technology for stable simultaneous hydrogen and methane production processes will be developed.

Dr. Daeyeol Jung, head of the BioX Technology Research Institute, said, "This marks the first step not only in the ongoing green hydrogen project utilizing organic waste but also in the high-purity methanation technology development project."

He added, "We have secured a foundation to grow as a specialized company in the bio renewable energy sector and will accelerate the development of convergent technologies."
