[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will start a shared umbrella rental service from the 13th to promote an eco-friendly sharing culture.
On the 11th, the district produced 320 shared umbrellas in yellow and light green colors, with the words "Yongsan Shared Umbrella" (120mm wide × 20mm high) printed on them, and placed them in the civil service offices of 16 neighborhood community centers.
The shared umbrellas operate on a self-service basis, allowing anyone to visit the nearest community center to borrow and return an umbrella as needed.
A district official said, "We are starting the shared umbrella rental service so that residents can become accustomed to a lifestyle of sharing instead of owning," and added, "We hope mature civic consciousness will be demonstrated by returning borrowed umbrellas on time so that many people can use the service."
In addition, the district operates a tool rental center called "Our Neighborhood Toolbox" in 16 neighborhoods. Local residents, business owners, and workers can borrow household tool sets, electric drills, and electric screwdrivers there.
In the second half of the year, a "Youth Sharing Economy School" workshop will be held for elementary and middle school students in the area. The workshop will spread the concept of the sharing economy through theoretical education and hands-on activities using educational tools.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "The spread of a culture of sharing limited resources together is the foundation for creating a sustainable urban environment," and added, "We will take the lead in establishing a sharing platform so that individuals can conveniently share items, spaces, and talents."
Last year, the district promoted a total of 25 sharing projects across 15 departments. Major projects included sharing tools, quarantine and childcare items; spaces such as idle spaces, parking lots, kitchens, studies, and living rooms; and sharing talents and experiences such as university student mentoring and counseling, as well as operating the Youth Sharing Economy School.
On the 11th, children are enjoying the cool water sprays at the water playground in Hanul Neighborhood Park (near 955-2 Sinwol-dong) in Yangcheon-gu.
Yangcheon-gu has been fully operating water facilities installed in major parks and along streets in the area since this month. In particular, the water playgrounds at Hanul Neighborhood Park, Bangok Children's Park, and Baekseok Children's Park boast facilities comparable to water parks.
The operating hours of these water-play parks are six times a day, running in 30-minute intervals from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
