[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate running for Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 11th that he signed a 'Tram Agreement' with Heo Tae-jeong, the Democratic Party candidate for Mayor of Daejeon, promising to "open the era of 'railroads in front of our homes and neighborhoods' with trams."
On the day, Candidate Kim said on Facebook, "One tram is said to have the transportation capacity to replace 3 buses and 174 passenger cars," adding, "If such trams and GTX create a synergy effect together, it can effectively solve the traffic problems during commuting hours in Gyeonggi Province."
He explained, "Currently, tram construction projects are underway in Suwon, Seongnam, and Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province," but "unlike Hwaseong, which lacks national funding support, Suwon and Seongnam have not passed the preliminary feasibility study hurdle."
Candidate Kim emphasized, "Taking this agreement as an opportunity, I will solve the institutional issues of tram introduction with my work skills," and added, "The saying that 'Gyeonggi residents spend 20% of their lives on public transportation' will become a thing of the past. Two players who have actually done real work will run together. Kim Dong-yeon, who has prepared the tram budget, and Heo Tae-jeong, who has created a leading tram city, will become a fantastic doubles team."
That afternoon, the two candidates held the 'Daejeon City-Gyeonggi Province Business Agreement Ceremony for the Completion of a Tram-Centered Public Transportation System' at the National Assembly Members' Office Building Seminar Room 1, agreeing to cooperate closely on tram-related matters. It was explained that Daejeon City and Gyeonggi Province will share new technologies related to trams and work together to lead technology standardization and advancement.
