[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A fire broke out in a five-story commercial building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, causing residents to evacuate.
The Seoul Mapo Fire Department received a report of a fire on the 4th floor of a five-story commercial building located in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, at 11:41 a.m. and arrived at the scene one minute later. The fire started on the 4th floor of the commercial building and spread to the residential area on the 5th floor.
The fire department deployed 91 firefighters and 24 pieces of equipment to extinguish the fire by 2:04 p.m.
Two people on the 4th and 5th floors evacuated due to the fire, and one rescue worker was taken to a nearby hospital after complaining of headache and dizziness from smoke inhalation. Additionally, the entire 4th-floor Buddhist prayer room and part of the walls in the 5th-floor residence were destroyed.
Based on residents' statements that smoke and flames were seen in the prayer room, the fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
