[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will invest 574.4 billion KRW to create a comfortable air environment that residents can feel.
On the 11th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will promote lifestyle-oriented air environment improvement measures, such as supplying indoor air purification devices to 250 intercity buses and designating daycare centers and nursing facilities for the elderly in high-concentration fine dust emission areas as intensive management zones.
First, this year, the province will install bus-type air purification devices on 250 intercity buses. The bus-type air purification device converts indoor polluted air into clean air through a pre-filter (removes large dust), carbon filter (removes odor substances), HEPA filter (removes fine and ultrafine dust), and UV-LED (sterilizes airborne bacteria and viruses).
Along with this, through the "Intensive Management Zone Support Project," the province will focus on managing facilities used by vulnerable groups such as daycare centers and nursing facilities for the elderly located in high-concentration fine dust emission areas near commercial districts and industrial complexes in 10 cities and counties including Suwon. Fine dust shelters, simple measuring devices, fine dust inhalation mats, smart air showers, and window-attached ventilation systems will be installed to measure fine dust and promptly implement reduction measures during high concentration periods.
Additionally, air quality surveys and analyses will be conducted targeting large restaurant kitchens where various harmful gases are generated in large quantities, as well as farms and country houses using wood boilers, followed by the preparation of improvement plans.
The province will also promote projects such as ▲West Coast Area (Gyeonggi, Incheon, Chungnam) ultra-wide air quality improvement project ▲Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port air quality improvement project ▲UN Environment Programme (UNEP) - Gyeonggi, Seoul, Incheon joint air quality research.
Furthermore, to expand the supply of zero-emission eco-friendly vehicles and reduce the operation of old diesel vehicles, the province will carry out projects to supply electric two-wheelers and electric excavators, as well as reduce emissions from operating diesel vehicles.
A provincial official emphasized, "This plan is an annual plan to achieve the goals of the metropolitan area air environment implementation plan, aiming to improve the relatively poor air quality of Gyeonggi Province compared to other cities and provinces. We will do our best to ensure that residents can breathe safe and clean air not only from fine dust but also from air pollutants."
