[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Approximately 130,000 Tesla electric vehicles were recalled in the United States due to touchscreen malfunctions, local foreign media reported on the 10th (local time).

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered a defect where the touchscreen display installed in the center of Tesla's interior overheats excessively and issued a recall.

NHTSA explained that due to CPU overheating, the rear camera behind the screen, warning lights, and other information may not be displayed, causing the display to malfunction.

The recall targets all models produced in 2021 and 2022, totaling about 130,000 vehicles. NHTSA added that Tesla plans to provide an over-the-air software update for the recalled vehicles.

Last month, about 48,000 Tesla vehicles across three models were recalled in the U.S. due to a defect where the speed unit was not displayed in 'Track Mode.'
