[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Sonyde (formerly YapX), a KOSDAQ-listed company, has participated in the Ars Hexa consortium, the preferred negotiator for the Incheon International Airport art storage facility project, and has been selected as a ‘digital NFT operator.’ The Ars Hexa consortium secured the preferred negotiator status for the Incheon International Airport art storage facility development project last February.
An art storage facility is a warehouse for storing high-value artworks. It maintains a constant temperature and humidity to prevent damage to the artworks and ensures security. Sonyde, through its subsidiary Sonyde Lab, will proceed with the digital NFT business (digital storage) for artworks stored in the facility, starting with its participation in the Ars Hexa consortium.
Choi Simyeong, CEO of Sonyde, stated, “Advanced global airports such as Geneva International Airport in Switzerland, Luxembourg Findel International Airport, and Singapore Changi Airport already have systematic art storage systems that charge fees for storing high-value artworks. We will lead the digitalization of high-value artworks and NFT technology, which has become a global trend in the industry, and contribute to ensuring the smooth progress of the Incheon International Airport project, which aims to become a cultural and artistic airport.”
The company explained that Incheon International Airport aims to become a cultural and artistic airport as part of strengthening competitiveness to overcome intensified competition in the aviation industry. The art storage facility development project is the first phase of building the Incheon International Airport Art Hub to enhance competitiveness. In the future, Incheon International Airport plans to establish an auction house, art fair, and gallery in the second phase, and eventually build a museum in the third phase.
