Opening of Election Offices for Gyeongnam Education Superintendent Candidates Kim Sang-kwon and Park Jong-hoon 'Side by Side'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Kim Sang-kwon and Park Jong-hoon, preliminary candidates for Gyeongnam Superintendent of Education, opened their campaign offices side by side on the 7th.


On the same day, at the same time, during their respective opening ceremonies, both candidates pledged to keep their promises and strengthened their determination to win together with those who visited their offices.

#. Candidate Kim Sang-kwon, “We will definitely restore normalcy to Gyeongnam education!”

Kim Sang-kwon, the centrist-conservative unified candidate, established his campaign office at Hanbit Medical Center in Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam.


Candidate Kim began by saying, “For the past eight years, the education superintendent from the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (Jeon-gyo-jo) has led Gyeongnam education into a total crisis with policies deviating from the essence of education and politically biased personnel appointments.”


He presented pledges including ▲dramatic improvement in academic achievement ▲establishment of a digital education environment for future preparedness ▲realization of demand-satisfying educational welfare ▲creation of a safe and sound school environment ▲fair and reasonable personnel and administration.


“I express my gratitude to many who have sent their support,” he said, “With your encouragement, I will definitely win and restore the broken Gyeongnam education system.”


The opening ceremony was attended by Park Wan-su, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeongnam Governor; Hong Nam-pyo, candidate for Changwon Mayor; and Kim Jong-yang, preliminary candidate for the Changwon Uichang-gu National Assembly by-election.


According to the campaign headquarters, about 1,000 people visited the campaign office, including not only these figures but also supporters, election committee members from city, county, and district liaison offices, education officials, members of the School Reform Movement Headquarters, the Love for the Nation Association, and civic groups.

#. Candidate Park Jong-hoon, “The future education of Gyeongnam has already begun; what remains is to enhance its completeness”

On the same day, preliminary candidate Park Jong-hoon held his opening ceremony at 7 IFC, Changwon-daero, Uichang-gu, Changwon-si.


Candidate Park stated that he is running for a third term to achieve stable recovery of school education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and to complete future education.


“Over the past eight years, Gyeongnam education has strengthened educational publicness through early implementation of free school meals and free high school education, and proposed a new school model centered on Happy Schools,” he explained. “We introduced the nation’s first big data-AI-based education system, which has been visited and benchmarked by superintendents from Seoul and Jeju, creating a new model for future education in Korea.”


He promised ▲nation’s first big data-AI-based customized student education ▲full free education for public and private kindergartens ▲expansion of the regional care center ‘Neulbom’ ▲establishment of regional university entrance information centers ▲support for EduPay.


“The future education of Gyeongnam, which will bring a fresh breeze to Korean education, has already begun, and what remains is to enhance its completeness,” he emphasized.


He expressed his determination, saying, “Focusing solely on Gyeongnam students and Gyeongnam education, I will definitely realize future education that fully covers free kindergarten education, unlimited care, and everything from career guidance to college admission.”


Former Changwon University President Choi Haebum, who attended the opening ceremony, said, “Candidate Park Jong-hoon is a person whose ability and experience have been verified through eight years of serving as superintendent of education,” and expressed support, saying, “For Gyeongnam education to take a leap forward, a capable candidate like Park must be elected.”


Supporters voiced, “Gyeongnam education stands at an important crossroads between regressing to the past or advancing to the future,” and “The time for Gyeongnam education must be toward the future, and the only choice for that is candidate Park Jong-hoon.”


According to Park’s campaign headquarters, about 500 education experts, parents, citizens, and supporters, including former President Choi, attended the event that day.
