[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is operating the ‘Wise Nutrition Education Class’ using nutrition experience kits for a total of 1,256 students, including 937 students from 12 elementary schools and 319 students from 12 middle and high schools.
The class is conducted to inform students about the excellence of our traditional foods and to cultivate healthy eating habits.
The class supports on-site experiential learning for schools facing difficulties due to COVID-19 and has been operated for three years this year.
Last year, it was operated for 1,020 students from 18 schools, and this year it has been expanded to 1,256 students from 24 schools.
From the 9th to the 12th, nutrition experience kits containing ingredients for hands-on activities and worksheets will be delivered to each school on designated days and distributed to students.
The ingredients included in the kits are red pepper powder, meju powder, sea salt, rice syrup, and organic sikhye, which can be used to make traditional gochujang.
The kits also include disposable aprons, containers, and spoons necessary for the experience so that classroom lessons can be conducted with only the experience kits without any other preparations at school.
When students scan the QR code on the worksheet enclosed in the kit, they are connected to the learning content of the nutrition experience program, allowing them to safely participate in the experience at school while viewing the content.
Nam Su-jeong, Director of School Life Education at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “Nutrition education will greatly help students understand the excellence of our traditional food culture and form healthy eating habits,” adding, “We will continue to provide various experiential activity programs that can be safely experienced on school sites.”
