Ministry of Health and Welfare-Korea Health Industry Development Institute Hold '2022 Physician-Scientist Career Concert'

Ministry of Health and Welfare-Korea Health Industry Development Institute Hold '2022 Physician-Scientist Career Concert'

[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute announced on the 9th that they will hold the '2022 Physician-Scientist Career Concert' on the afternoon of the 11th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Since 2019, the Ministry and the Institute have been conducting the 'Convergent Physician-Scientist Training Project' to promote the growth of the biomedical industry and improve the quality of medical services. This program provides opportunities for physicians with clinical knowledge to conduct medical science research, implementing initiatives such as 'Support for Convergent Physician-Scientist Undergraduate Programs,' 'Resident Research Support,' and 'Full-time Doctoral Program Support.' To enable continued career development as physician-scientists after completing master's and doctoral degrees, the 'New Physician-Scientist Training Project' has also been launched this year.

To raise awareness and build social consensus on physician-scientist training, following last year's online project briefing and career talk show, this year an opportunity has been created for current and future physician-scientists to gather and communicate in one place.

This year's '2022 Physician-Scientist Career Concert' will be held under the theme of 'Resolving Curiosities and Building Consensus in the Physician-Scientist Career Ecosystem.' The event consists of a keynote speech, introduction of policy directions, presentations on major physician-scientist training projects, and career mentoring sessions.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Park Woongyang, CEO of Geninus (Director of the Genome Research Institute at Samsung Seoul Hospital), on the topic of 'The Role of Physician-Scientists and Directions for Biohealth Growth.' Following this, Han Dongwoo, Director of the Institute, will introduce 'Government Policies for Physician-Scientist Training.'

In the session presenting major physician-scientist training projects, Professor Kim Jongil of Seoul National University will give a presentation titled 'The Role and Changes of Universities in Physician-Scientist Training.' Additionally, resident Hwang Gyubeom from Ajou University Hospital, doctoral student Kim Yunseop from Catholic University, and doctoral student Oh Jongwook from Yonsei University will share their motivations for pursuing physician-scientist careers and examples of their research activities. Professor Lee Geunwoo of Yeungnam University Medical Center will also introduce collaborative research activities and achievements of innovative physician-scientists.

In the career mentoring session, Professor Song Haeryong from Korea University Guro Hospital and CEO Cho Seongja of NewDive will discuss physician entrepreneurship activities, while Professor Noh Jihoon from Korea University will share concerns from the medical community regarding the expansion of physician-scientist careers. CEO Park Woongyang and Professor Lee Geunwoo, who previously presented, will also participate as mentors.

Pre-registration for attending this event is conducted online. Detailed information can be found in the announcements section on the Institute's website.
