No Involvement in Electing Specific Candidate, Will Not Tolerate Spread of False Information
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Congressman So Byeong-cheol issued a statement on the 8th, saying, “During the nomination process for the 8th nationwide local simultaneous elections, baseless allegations and criticisms are rampant against the Democratic Party of Korea’s Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye (Gap) Regional Committee (hereinafter ‘Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee’).”
Regarding the suspicion that the ‘list of party members with voting rights’ was leaked from the Democratic Party’s Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee, Congressman So stated that the ‘list of party members with voting rights’ has been stored in a system that has been electronically inaccessible by our Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee since May of last year, and that the allegations are fabricated falsehoods.
“Although further precise verification is needed, the materials currently being revealed in photos are from unknown sources unrelated to the regional committee,” he claimed that the ‘leak suspicion’ is a clear falsehood.
He expressed deep regret over the movement to damage the fairness of the Democratic Party’s primary process and to undermine trust in the party by spreading false information.
He then urged candidates and party members to follow the procedures stipulated in the party’s constitution and regulations.
He requested that the spreading of false information that damages the Democratic Party’s trust be stopped, warning that if such acts continue, strict responsibility will inevitably be demanded.
He also stated that the suspicion that the regional committee chairman intervened to ensure the election of a specific candidate is also a baseless slander.
He said that those who claim or spread such falsehoods must bear the corresponding responsibility.
Our Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee has prioritized the nomination standards and principles of the Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Party and the Nomination Management Committee, and has made every effort to ensure a fair and clean election.
He expressed respect and gratitude to those who accepted the nomination exclusion results with the spirit of putting the party before personal interests, and offered deep consolation to those who are disappointed and unable to accept the nomination results, while appealing to a few who criticize the Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee to consider the danger of regressing to the old ‘politics of division’ in Suncheon.
The Suncheon (Gap) Regional Committee stated, “We will prioritize the goal of successfully hosting the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo next year, reviving the livelihoods on the brink, revitalizing the local economy, and creating jobs, and will advance unwaveringly,” adding, “Elected positions are not power. The selection and judgment of elected officials are not done by the regional committee or its chairman, but are the rights of the citizens of Suncheon, which we will humbly remember once again.”
