Gijang-gun Secures 700 Million KRW in Special Grants for First Half of Year... Breathing Room for Icheon Port Breakwater Extension Project Busan Gijang County Office.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Gijang-gun secured 700 million KRW in special grants for the first half of the year.

Special grants are funds provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to cover specific circumstances of local governments that cannot be reflected in the calculation of general grants, changes in local financial conditions, or unexpected financial demands.

Earlier, on March 21, Gijang-gun applied for a total of 3.65 billion KRW in six projects under regional issues and disaster safety special grants: ▲ Construction of a job creation education and support center (700 million KRW), ▲ Installation of breakwater at Icheon Port (1.5 billion KRW), ▲ Construction of coastal road between Ilgwang Dongbaek and Sinpyeong Village (500 million KRW), ▲ Establishment of Gijang Modern History Museum (470 million KRW), ▲ Seismic performance repair and reinforcement of Jangjeon 2 Bridge (320 million KRW), ▲ Renovation of eco-friendly agricultural product storage warehouse (160 million KRW).

Among these, the disaster safety special grant secured by Gijang-gun is 700 million KRW for the ‘Installation of breakwater at Icheon Port,’ a project to extend the existing breakwater according to the development plan of Icheon Port fishing harbor in Ilgwang-eup.

This construction is necessary to secure the stability of the seawater surface within the harbor and to protect the facilities behind from wave overtopping, as well as to safeguard the property of nearby residents and prevent casualties.

A Gijang-gun official stated, “We will continue to discover regional issues closely related to residents’ lives and disaster safety projects, and respond to securing special grants to make every effort to raise funds.”
