[Asia Economy Reporter Song Hwajeong] Bank branches are evolving more and more, allowing customers to conveniently handle banking tasks at home and even at supermarkets.
According to the financial sector on the 5th, Shinhan Bank recently signed a strategic partnership with KT to promote the AI-based video consultation service "Home Branch," which utilizes KT Olleh TV's voice recognition technology.
Home Branch is a home-based branch that provides AI-based video consultation services using the voice recognition technology of "Giga Genie" on the Shinhan Bank channel within KT Olleh TV, enabling customers to have real-time financial consultations and simple transactions with bank staff through their TV.
Based on this partnership, Shinhan Bank and KT plan to collaborate on ▲service model development and commercialization ▲improving customer experience and expanding cooperation models ▲joint marketing to activate the Home Branch service.
In particular, Home Branch is applying AI bankers to offer simple responses and consultation reservations through Olleh TV even after bank branch business hours, and is reviewing advanced plans such as linking with Shinhan SOL to enable actual banking tasks like transfers and product subscriptions.
Additionally, to accommodate senior customers who are not familiar with digital devices, the interface will be designed with a simple UI (User Interface) to enhance accessibility, and KT's advanced security technology will be applied to ensure safe financial transactions.
It is also possible to handle banking tasks while visiting supermarkets. Last month, Shinhan Bank opened the first innovative supermarket branch in the financial sector at GS The Fresh Gwangjin Hwayang branch.
GS The Fresh Gwangjin Hwayang branch is a large store near Konkuk University Station with over 2,000 daily customers, mainly attracting customers in their 20s and 30s due to the university area characteristics.
Shinhan Bank created an innovative space called "GS Retail X Shinhan Bank" within the store and installed a digital desk for video consultations and smart kiosks. The digital desk allows most branch counter services such as loans, funds, trusts, and retirement pensions through video consultations with Shinhan Bank digital sales department staff, while the smart kiosk handles simple counter tasks like new deposits.
The GS Retail X Shinhan Bank innovative branch is greeted and guided directly by a robot concierge, who also performs tasks such as event notifications via QR codes, and the AI banker checks the needs of customers connected to the digital desk and smart kiosks and handles simple tasks.
Furthermore, video consultation services via the digital desk are available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the smart kiosks operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, catering to the lifestyle of customers in their 20s and 30s.
Since opening the Digilog Branch in July last year, Shinhan Bank introduced the GS Retail convenience store innovative branch in Gohan-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Province in October, and has opened 33 unmanned digital lounges so far, continuously striving to minimize customer inconvenience caused by branch consolidation through the expansion and development of digital desks.
