Russia Imposes Entry Ban Sanctions on 63 Individuals Including Japanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Russia has banned the entry of 63 Japanese nationals, including Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

On the 4th (local time), the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would indefinitely ban the entry of 63 government officials, journalists, and professors related to "unacceptable remarks" against Russia. The list includes high-ranking officials such as Prime Minister Kishida, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, and Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi.

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Japan has imposed strong economic sanctions on Russia alongside Western allies such as the United States. Recently, tensions between Russia and Japan have escalated as Russia announced plans for the full-scale development of the Kuril Islands.

Meanwhile, in March, Russia placed high-ranking U.S. officials such as President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on its entry ban list. Last month, Western leaders including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison were also subjected to the same sanctions.
